Let me start by setting the scene of the day Giris Rabinovitch entered my life or did I enter his? It was June 1999. I was asked by my office to go meet a client, outside a Texaco petrol station on Fortune Green Road. As I walked towards a smartly dressed, fine figure of a man who was standing on the edge of the site, I couldn’t help but overhear the deep and heated conversation he was having on his phone, Bluetooth flashing away in his beard. I held my hand out to shake his, and was greeted by the following words, “Welcome to Disney land, who are you Micky Mouse?”. I knew right there and then this was not going to be an ordinary meeting. Giris was also responsible on that very day for me receiving my one and only ever parking fine. Guess what, the meeting went on for hours. I learnt another valuable lesson on that day, if you were meeting Giris do not take the car, use the train or underground!!! Seriously though what an absolute honour it has been to have had him in my life, not only as a hugely valued client but more importantly as a very dear friend and personal mentor for over 20 years. He would always be a guiding light during many conversations where he would offer words of wisdom, knowledge, guidance, and advice. Some I fully understood and some I was left scratching my head attempting to compute what pearl of wisdom I had just received from a great man; someone who I only ever had the upmost respect for and he deserved every part of that. Whenever he called no matter what time of day or night, usually somewhere between 930pm -10pm, the first question was always how is the family? That is the kind of genuine gentleman he was. Thanks for the memories Giris, they will be cherished always and forever. Sleep well my friend. Martin
