I worked, and sometimes played, laughed and sometimes cried with Giris for more than 30 years. An absolute enigma, we may never see his like again. When we first met in a professional capacity Giris was not long out of the Ashram and I helped him set up his business and first company. He never looked back and of course went on to build a lasting legacy in bricks and mortar. Here was a man who was equally at home with princes and paupers, Gurus and Rabbis, and gave his time to everyone. He was loyal to a fault and there are so many friends who can pay testimony to that. How do you explain Giris? Brilliant yet at the same time so frustrating! Idiosyncratic, creative, scheming, and always incredibly caring. Giris had no or little concept of time. As my wife said to me this morning before I dialled in for a conference call… “No more Giris, so the call won’t be postponed”. I will miss him greatly and hope that we will all have comfort in the knowledge that he is now at peace.
